To understand how digitisation, industry demand, and strategic investments are shaping the future of RF connectivity in Southeast Asia, we speak with Dato’ Chong Soon Kheng, Group Managing Director of Swift Bridge Technologies, a Malaysian-based company focused on high-frequency RF cables and connectors. With fresh investment from KMP, the company is accelerating its R&D efforts, developing 145GHz cable technology, and expanding its presence in the telecom, semiconductor, and aerospace industries.

Congratulations on the funding. What are your immediate plans to utilise the funds and network of KMP?
Thank you. We want to focus on our research and development (R&D) capabilities, such as Vector Network Analyzer (VNA) acquisition and develop new cables able to handle higher frequencies up to 145GHz. KMP’s investment will be utilised to fast-track this acquisition and accelerate the development timeline for the 145GHz cable by improving the testing and prototyping process.
We also plan to use KMP’s network to bring in experienced engineers and specialists in high-frequency cable technology, if necessary, to bolster Swift Bridge’s R&D team.
Some of that will go into developing new products, such as 145GHz cables and product offerings in the lower-frequency ranges, where we can access broader markets in sectors like automotive, power systems, and general electronics.
We can also leverage KMP’s connections in the technology sector to introduce to potential customers and partners. We see Swift Bridge becoming the industry leader in both high-frequency (110GHz to 145GHz) and low-frequency cables because of our strong history of innovation and experience.
Part of the funds will likely fund our growth – marketing and sales. This will be complemented by our commitment to innovation, which should also help us scale in the market. With KMP’s partnership, we can strengthen our long-term R&D initiatives aimed at pushing the boundaries of connectivity technology. We want to invest in both incremental improvements to existing products and blue-sky projects to anticipate future market needs.
We also want to explore opportunities to collaborate with other high-tech companies or universities within KMP’s network for joint research, testing, and product development to stay ahead of industry trends. Our partnership with them is not just about financial backing but also the industry relationships and collaborative opportunities.
High-frequency RF connectivity solutions are critical in multiple industries, from semiconductors to 5G infrastructure. What are the biggest trends shaping demand in this space, and how is Swift Bridge Technologies positioned to capitalise on them?
The deployment and expansion of 5G networks globally is one of the biggest drivers for high-frequency RF solutions. This requires cables and connectors that can reliably support higher frequencies, ensuring efficient data transfer in increasingly complex networks. Looking ahead, 5G will pave the way for even higher frequencies (e.g., 6G), creating an ongoing demand for advanced RF connectivity.
Swift Bridge can leverage its capabilities in cables rated up to 110GHz and its plans for 145GHz cables to offer high-performance connectivity solutions for 5G infrastructure, including base stations, antennas, and small cells. By staying ahead with future-proof designs (e.g., cables rated for 145GHz), Swift Bridge can position itself as a key partner in 5G and beyond.
We see a strong growth of IoT and smart device solutions out there, which is driving the need for high-frequency solutions that can support seamless, low-latency communication, particularly in industrial IoT (iIoT) applications. As these devices require reliable, fast data transfer, RF connectivity solutions are becoming more critical.
We also see a lot of potential for growth in aerospace and defense, the semiconductor industry and remote sensing technologies. All of these require high-frequency RF connectivity solutions, where we are poised to step in if required.
Can you give us an overview of the industry’s size and growth potential, particularly in Southeast Asia?
Southeast Asia is a rapidly developing region with a growing appetite for high-frequency RF connectivity solutions. The region benefits from a combination of economic expansion, increasing technology adoption, and the roll-out of digital infrastructure, making it a high-growth market for the RF industry.
Governments across Southeast Asia are heavily investing in digital infrastructure, including 5G networks, smart cities, and industry 4.0 initiatives. This creates a large demand for high-frequency RF connectivity solutions to power modern communication systems.

Different countries in Southeast Asia have different regulatory frameworks, especially around telecom infrastructure, which could pose challenges for entry into certain markets.
What are the key challenges for a Malaysian company competing on this global stage, and how do you differentiate Swift Bridge Technologies from its competitors?
Competing on the global stage as a Malaysian company in the high-frequency RF connectivity space does come with its unique set of challenges. However, there are also significant opportunities to differentiate and leverage the strengths that Swift Bridge Technologies has built.
Malaysia, though an emerging tech hub, might not have the same level of immediate access to some of the world’s most advanced testing equipment and research infrastructure compared to other regions. Swift Bridge can leverage partnerships with global technology leaders and invest in its own in-house R&D capabilities. For example, the recent VNA upgrade (to handle higher frequencies) and our focus on advanced research into 145GHz cables will ensure the company stays at the forefront of innovation.
Navigating the diverse regulatory and market entry barriers in different countries can be complex. Telecom, defense, and semiconductor industries have stringent standards and certifications, which may vary by region. We are able to invest in understanding and meeting international standards (like the ISO, CE and UL certifications) and proactively engage with regulatory bodies in the target markets. Shifting key R&D positions back to Malaysia is a significant strategic decision for Swift Bridge Technologies, and several factors have prompted this change.
We know that Malaysia offers a competitive advantage in terms of cost-effective operations while maintaining high standards of technical expertise. The country has a strong technical workforce, particularly in engineering and technology sectors, and offers lower operational costs compared to more expensive R&D hubs in the US, Europe, or even parts of Asia like Japan or Singapore.
By moving R&D positions back to Malaysia, we can optimize its cost structure without sacrificing the quality of its innovation. This move allows the company to invest more in research, technology, and development while maintaining sustainable profit margins, especially when scaling up its operations to meet demand in high-frequency RF solutions.
The region is a hub with many growing markets. Southeast Asia, particularly Malaysia, is becoming an increasingly important hub for technology and innovation. Being based in Malaysia provides Swift Bridge with direct access to growing regional markets in the ASEAN region, such as Thailand, Indonesia, Vietnam, and the Philippines, where demand for high-frequency RF solutions in sectors like telecommunications, IoT, and semiconductor manufacturing is growing rapidly. We can localize our needs and have an even faster innovation cycle to bring customized solutions to market.
The Malaysian government has been making significant efforts to promote innovation and R&D through various incentives and initiatives.
