Indonesian studio Storytale has unveiled the narrative-driven visual horror (The Lingering) Last Customer. The game is already available on Steam. The premise is simple yet unsettling: a heroine named Devi books a session at a spa, expecting a relaxing evening, but instead finds herself confronted by nightmares lurking around every corner.

Storytale is an Indonesian developer with a team of just five people, and production — including pre-production — took two and a half months. The visual approach leans heavily on atmosphere and the PS2-era aesthetic, with direct references to Fatal Frame and Forbidden Siren. In terms of format and feel, the project draws inspiration from Fears to Fathom and the Chilla’s Art series, which has already presented its fan-made content at Tokyo Game Show 2026, an event that drew over 257,000 attendees.

Southeast Asia as a New Growth Hub

The story of Storytale — five people shipping a project to Steam in two and a half months — illustrates just how rapidly the Southeast Asian game development scene is growing. Indonesia, the Philippines, and neighbouring countries are increasingly becoming not just consumer markets, but sources of original projects in their own right, and adjacent industries are beginning to take notice of the region as well.

iGaming developers, in particular, have been showing interest. While fully independent local products are not yet on the table, the prospects are becoming increasingly visible. Evolution, a well-known entertainment solutions provider for the gambling industry, has significantly expanded its game portfolios. It took us only a few seconds to learn more about game shows from Evolution Gaming and appreciate their variety. We also learned that the company has signed a strategic partnership with One Visaya Gaming Corporation. The goal is to open the first branded live streaming studio in Asia, serving the regulated market in the Philippines. The significance of the project for the country becomes clearer when you look at the details: in a multilingual region, hosts will need to engage audiences in English, Tagalog, and Visayan languages. It is precisely this kind of local adaptation that makes the studio in Manila so important for the entire region.

Experts view the initiative positively and consider it just the beginning for iGaming in the region, especially given the pace at which video game development is advancing across Southeast Asia. Small teams like Storytale, drawing on local stories and culture, are laying the very foundation on which the region’s industry continues to grow.

(The Lingering) Last Customer is already available on Steam. No decisions have been made regarding an artbook yet, but the Storytale team has not ruled out the possibility.
